177 additional souls were discovered—help us honor our ancestors and preserve their history.

Over 230 souls are resting beneath the ground at the Macedonia Cemetery — and the time to act is now to preserve their stories before they are lost again.

DISCOVER THE STORY

Preservation Efforts

DMCC helps visitors uncover the powerful history of Macedonia Cemetery, the formerly enslaved families connected to the land, and the discovery of 230+ forgotten souls beneath sacred ground. Through storytelling, research, and historical preservation, visitors are invited to experience a story America needs to hear.

Our Plan

SUPPORT THE MISSION

Preserving History

DMCC works to preserve Macedonia Cemetery, reconnect ancestors to their descendants, and build a living memorial emblematic of the original church. Donations and community support directly assist preservation efforts, genealogy research, educational programming, and the future gazebo museum project.

IDENTIFY and RECOGNIZE

Promoting Awareness

DMCC is leading efforts to document, honor, and identify the 177 additional unknown burials discovered through ground penetrating radar, at the same time, acknowledging and researching the 60+ known burial sites. Visitors can learn about the lives, legacy, and descendants connected to these forgotten souls while helping ensure their stories are never erased from history.

Living Museum of Memory

The Gazebo Project: A permanent outdoor structure honoring the lives and legacies of those buried on these sacred grounds. The gazebo will stand as an emblematic tribute to the original Macedonia Church—symbolizing faith, perseverance, and the enduring legacy of those buried there.” The QR codes on the pews will unlock a digital archive of oral histories, genealogical records, and timelines—bridging descendants, students, and the public to their shared heritage.

“Each pew holds a story. Each scan restores a name.”
