“The museum gazebo envisioned for Macedonia African American Cemetery is a permanent outdoor structure designed to serve as a historical exhibit, memorial gathering space, and educational resource honoring the lives and legacies of those interred on these sacred grounds. Educational Purpose This gazebo functions as a living museum. Each pew is adorned with engraved plaques bearing the names of ancestors and donors, enabling visitors to physically and emotionally connect with the individuals buried here. A mounted QR code provides immediate access to a digital archive—including genealogical records, oral histories, and historical timelines—bringing the stories of these African American families to life for students, scholars, and the general public. Through this structure, the nonprofit will continue its mission of reverse genealogy, actively connecting living descendants to their ancestors, and providing educational programming centered on African American heritage, local history, and the legacy of faith and perseverance rooted in Macedonia Church and Cemetery.”
